What's New at MultiPlaya

Posted by: mbolton 2006-07-17 16:10:09
Fixed a small bug with the count of times a topic in the communities has been viewed. The count was resetting to 0 each time a new response was entered in a thread. I've corrected that and it should not crop up anymore. |

I've added the number of search results on the top line of the search for new friends page. Now, when you search for friends/people on the site, it'll tell you how many people matched the search criteria. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-07-04 00:05:22
I've added a read/viewed count to each message thread for each community. Now you'll be able to see how many times each thread has been read. Each time someone reads it/opens it, it will increment by one. You'll also notice that when you open a thread you'll see the specific title of it on the top of each page, rather than Community Topic Post. Since this was just implemented today, the counts on most of the threads will be 0 until the threads are read going forward. Let me know if you see any issues. |

On the main page (under Current Stats in the middle column), it now shows the 3 users on MultiPlaya who have most recently updated their profiles. This provides an easy way to tell which profiles have changed since your previous visit. |

New Poll and General Update |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-29 19:51:10
Hey everyone - I replaced the poll on the main page with a new one. Check it out and give us your input when you have a chance.
I also wanted to take the time to let you know that the site is still alive and well. Damage and myself have not been put into a Witness Protection Program, contrary to the rumors. I've been on vacation and busy over the past few weeks, but I plan to try and get back into the swing of things soon. We appreciate the patronage, so keep coming back! |

You can now request that another user joins you in chat with a couple of clicks. Just click on the "view online users" link on the main page, then click the Invite to Chat link next to the person's name who is online. This will send them a private message that indicates you'd like them to visit MultiPlaya Chat. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-09 14:14:33
I've added the "last seen" information to the list of online users. This means that when you click to see the list of users that are online, it'll also show you what page they visited most recently. Most, but not all pages are tracked in this manner. If you wish you can disable this by going to User Preferences -> Privacy Options and check the "Hide Last Page Viewed" option. This will hide the last page that you've visited, without hiding your online status completely. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-09 00:29:41
Starting now, if you edit your profile and update its content, you'll see a new field in your profile: Last Profile Update. This tells you (and other users) when your profile was last updated/edited. |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-05 12:12:26
In addition to showing your Friend Bulletins in the lower left portion of your profile page, you can now see your Friend Bulletins from your home page. On the home page, you'll find them in the lower righthand portion of the page. You can also click a link to create new friend bulletins from this area. |

Users can now provide comments on other user's pictures that reside in their picture galleries. The owner of the picture of the picture gallery can delete comments as they see fit. Enjoy! |

Two changes to pic galleries |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-04 17:23:19
I've made two enhancements to the picture gallery section for the profiles. Now, you can see how many additional pictures a user has when you look at their View More Pics link on their profile. The number of additional pics will show in parentheses.
The second modification is to add a border around the thumbnail pictures. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-03 18:36:37
You can now click on the "see complete list of posters" link at the bottom of the Top Community Posters list on the main page of the site. This will allow you to see a list (in order of number of posts) of all users who have posted to the communities (forums). |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-03 16:36:53
You can now see an entire list of all users and where they stack up on profile views. Go to the main page and at the bottom of the Top 10 Profile Views you'll see a link. Clicking on this link will lead you to a page where you can see all users' profile view tallies. Check it out and see where you rank! |

Additional pic gallery feature |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-06-02 13:27:35
If a person has no pictures in their photo gallery, you can now click on a link to request that the user add pictures to their gallery. The request will come to that user in the form of a private message.
Thanks! |

We've added the ability for users to create their own polls (up to 3 maximum).
Polls will monitored for inappropriate content (like any other section of the site). If a poll is deemed to have inappropriate content, it will be deleted immediately and without warning.
Enjoy! |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-19 23:17:18
You can now have a photo gallery with up to 20 pictures (linked from ImageShack/PhotoBucket/etc). click the "view more pics" link on your profile page to get started with building your own gallery. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-17 02:13:23
I've made two small changes in the past day or so. One change was to extend the amount of maximum poll choices from 3 to 5. This ties in with another idea of mine that I will explain later. The second change was to add a "Last Updated" field to the Blog Directory so that you could tell (at a glance) which blogs have had new entries in them. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-15 23:23:15
Chat is here. Click on either the Chat link on the top nav menu bar on each page to get a full browser window version of the chat, or you can click on the chat link in the middle column of the home page and have the chat in a popup window (which is resizable).
Enjoy! |

We've now added the option to personalize your blog with a layout. On your blog page, you'll now find a link that will allow you to personalize your blog with custom layout code. Layout codes can be found on many sites on the Internet. So now you can "pimp out" your blogs just like you "pimp out" your profiles. Have fun! |

You now have the ability to subscribe to another user's blog. To do this, go their profile page. If you have not already subscribed to their blog, there will be a link in the blogs section that will allow you to subscribe.
To see if there are any new blog entries for the users you've subscribed to, just check your profile and you'll receive notification in your blog section. You can also manage your subscription through the link provided in your profile. Please let me know if you have any questions. |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-12 19:23:32
There's now a new field in your Edit Profile page called Quote/Saying/Catch Phrase. You have up to 100 characters worth of space for a catch phrase/saying that will appear on your profile. If you set a quote, it appears a few lines below your picture in the left hand column. |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-11 00:41:57
I've added the ability to change the amount of time elapsed before logins are expired. The default is 1 hour (as it always has been), but it can now be extended up to 6 hours.
This option, along with the ability to edit/create a forum signature are included in User Preferences -> Miscellaneous Settings.
Enjoy! |

Prior to now, all date/timestamps were displayed with respect to the server's timezone which is Eastern time (or GMT -5). I've now set it up so that you can change your timezone by going to User Preferences -> User Timezone. If you're in the Pacific timezone, for instance, you'd be GMT -8. I think I caught every section that has a timestamp and have modified it to reflect the adjusted timezone. If I haven't, please let me know. Also, be aware that everyone's timezone is defaulted to Eastern time (GMT -5), so if you're not in that timezone, you'll want to change this to see the difference. Once it's changed, it'll remain that way unless you change it again.
Thanks! |

I made a subtle change to the way the threads are ordered in the various communities. Previously, they were ordered by the date when they were originally posted. Now, they are ordered by when the most recent reply occurred (meaning that posts can be "bumped up").. |
Deletion of community events |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-05 02:14:19
I've added the ability (from the User Preferences menu) for a community event creator to remove their event. In the (hopefully) near future, we'll also provide the ability to edit the event. The logistics of this are more than I expected when I jumped into it, so it's not going to be out right now... |
Signatures for forum posts |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-04 00:51:51
You can now add a custom signature to your profile posts. If you go to User Preferences -> Change Your Signature, you'll see a box that will allow you to type text (up to 200 characters) or link an image (from Photo Bucket/Image Shack, that sort of place). Please try and keep the images a reasonable size (no more than about 400 by 256). If a signature image is too large, it will be removed. Please let me know if you run into any snags with this. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-03 18:45:26
1) Modified the order of the events on the main page and now it'll show the upcoming event at the top of the list (if there is more than one event)
2) Changed the re-direction after you write a message to someone and it now takes you to your inbox rather than the recipient's profile.
3) Fixed a bug that was only showing the first word of the title on community posts when you hit the "Preview Post" button.

Character limit on messages = GONE! |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-03 01:10:54
I've removed one of the major complaints that I've received regarding the site. From this point forward, I have removed the character limit for the body of messages. There is no longer a 1000 character limit. Please let me know if you see anything funny occur when writing/receiving messages. |

I've cleaned up some excess steps for the friend approval/adding process. It's always possible that some weirdisms could be introduced by the changes that I've made. If you encounter any such weirdism, please drop me a line. Thanks! |

Notifications on top menu |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-05-01 13:58:30
In the top righthand portion of the menu bar, you can now see how many blog comments you have and how many new friend comments you have on your profile. This is in addition to being able to see how many unread emails you have.. enjoy! |

One more thing about Friend Bulletins |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-29 02:53:32
Friend Bulletins will auto-expire after 7 days. No deletion is necessary on the part of the author of the post or the recipients. Ok, now I think that about covers it. Hit me up with questions, if need be. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-29 00:55:12
You may noticed (or, you may not have noticed) that we've changed the name of the Bulletins category to Announcements. This is due to the fact that we've now introduced Friend Bulletins and we did not want to confuse people. :)
You can view or post Friend Bulletins within your profile. If you elect to post a Friend Bulletin, it will appear in the Friend Bulletin section of your friend's profiles. This can be a quick and easy method to communicate with friends/clanmates/etc. Try it out and let me know if you encounter any issues.

Preview forum/community posts |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-27 14:05:03
Hi everyone,
I've added the functionality to allow for the previewing of your community/forum posts prior to submitting them. If you run into any bugs or issues with this, please let me know, so that I may address them. Thanks! |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-26 17:30:08
I have now implemented the ability for clan founders to edit their clan news posted on the clan page. Please let me know if you run into any challenges with this. Thanks! |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-25 00:51:49
I've added (with the generous assistance of snsripper) a new feature to the top of the main page of the site called "Did you know?". It will provide you with pieces of information that you might not be aware of and I hope it proves helpful.
If you already know everything (LOL), however, you can disable the "Did you know?" feature by going to User Preferences -> Privacy Options.
Enjoy! |

I've made a couple of changes behind the scenes to how things work when a new user is registered. These changes should be transparent to everyone. If you've invited someone and they're having difficulty with either receiving the email link or logging in, please let myself or Damage know. Thanks! |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-24 00:25:21
I've made some slight modifications/enhancements to the community forums. I've moved things around on the page so that the forum thread details could accomodate a couple of extra fields: Original post author and original date. Those changes have been made to all forums and are in place right now. Please let me know if you run into any issues. Thanks! |

Friend comments on profiles |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-23 23:39:54
I've made a slight modification to the friend comments section on the profiles. If you have more than 10 friend comments on your profile, only the latest 10 comments show up on your main profile page. To view all of the friend comments, there is now a link provided at the bottom of the friend comments section of the profile page to do so.
Thanks! |

Custom name field in edit profiles |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-21 02:46:23
I thought I had posted about this already, but figured I should do so now since it's been available for a few days. You can edit your "user level" listed on your profile (which is typically listed as "Standard User") and make it whatever you'd like.
So for those of you who have been chomping at the bit to have the title of "Exalted Ruler", this may be just what you've been waiting for. ;) |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-21 02:43:43
I've added the ability to search for posts in the communities by username. If you provide a name, you'll be able to access a page that shows all of a user's posts on the results page (yes, even Timberwolf's posts come back quickly without bogging down the entire server, LOL!)
Enjoy! |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-21 01:51:48
I've added the ability for users to refresh the main page (primarily to see how many users are online) at different intervals (10 seconds, 30 seconds, or 60 seconds, or not at all). I hope that you all find this to be useful. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-20 02:11:38
Added content at the bottom of the forum threads to show which page you're on (i.e. "page 1 of 2")
Also added a link to let a person jump to the end of the thread without having to click "Next Page" repeatedly. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-19 00:44:12
I've just added a thread list option on your user menu (the menu with User Preferences, Change Picture, etc).
This page will display any forum (community) threads that you're subscribed to and will allow you to unsubscribe from them all in one place, rather than going to each individual thread to unsubscribe. I hope that those of you that are subscribing to threads will find this handy. And, if you haven't subscribed to any threads yet - you should! :) |

I've made a few minor changes. You'll notice that the date you joined MultiPlaya now shows in your profile. Also, I've included that join date, along with the number posts and you user level when you post in the communities (it shows up right along with your username and picture).
Other than that, most of the changes that have been made recently are to address minor bugs..
Thanks, as always!! |

I just wanted to make sure everyone knew about our points system and how you can earn points. There is a bulletin that details how this works. There is one addendum to that bulletin that I added that is another way to score points.
For everyone person that you invite to MultiPlaya via the "Tell A Friend" link at the bottom of the main page, you'll receive one point. If that person that you invite signs up, you'll receive 2 additional points. To ensure that you're credited for those 2 additional points, please be sure that you're sending the invite to an email that the person is likely to use when signing up.
Please let me know if anyone has questions, comments, etc, as always! |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-11 19:43:58
Going forward, users can now be notified via their registered email when there is a new bulletin. As with all notifications, it can be disabled by going to User Preferences -> Privacy Settings. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-10 01:39:06
You can now go to your list of messages and click a link which will take you the list of the messages you have sent to other users. This is a "read only" mode, meaning that you cannot delete messages that you have already sent out. The sent messages that appear in bold are messages that the message recipient has not read yet, so you can treat this as sort of a read receipt, if you will. |

Friends only blog comments |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-09 01:29:32
You now have the option in Privacy Settings (User Preferences -> Privacy Settings) to only allow people on your friends list to post comments on your blog. It's tested and working, so please feel free to use it if you need it. Thanks! |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-08 04:11:27
Under User Preferences -> Privacy Settings, you will find that you can now make it so that you must approve/decline profile comments before they appear on your profile.
If you opt to use this option, you'll receive a message at the top of the profile page that indicates that you have comments that need review/approval. You'll then be able to click a link to view the comments and either approve or decline them. With this approval option on, you'll get notification via email when comments are in your queue to approve/decline. This notification (like the regular comment notification) can also be disabled in the privacy settings. |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-07 12:13:07
We added a "View my blog" link to the user menu (the one that you see on various pages that has your picture and 5 or 6 options listed below it). This allows you to view your blog from many pages without having to first go to your profile. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-06 18:46:28
On the communities page (once you click the link on the top menu), we now show the name of the person who posted last in each community, along with the date/timestamp of when they posted. This is, of course, provided you've joined the community and it shows on your "my communities" list on that page. Please let me know if you have any questions. |

Where did Gamer Blogs go? |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-06 01:06:19
They're still alive and well, thanks for asking. :) To see a blog, you simply need to visit the profile of the user who has one and you'll see their 3 most recent titles of their blog entries. You can click on any of the 3 entries to reach the ir blog.
From there, you can click the "See other user's blogs" link at the top of the blog page to see the blog directory. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-05 18:49:20
We've moved the "Messages" link from the top menu over to the User Menu (along with User Preferences, Change My Picture, etc) and the option is called "View my messages". |

Message Writing Procedure |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-05 18:32:21
In an effort to make things more efficient and streamlined, we've changed the way that you compose messages to one another. If you wish to send a message to someone, you need to go to the person's respective profile and click "send a message". You can still reply to existing messages and future messages as normal, however. |

Profile Comment Notification |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-04 02:23:04
Well, we got the email notification running a tad quicker than I anticipated. You will now by notified via email when someone posts a comment on your profile. You can disable this notification by going to User Preferences -> Privacy Settings and checking the appropriate checkbox. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-03 23:50:49
As of right now, you now have the ability to post profile comments on the profiles of people on your friends list. The profile owner has the ability to delete/edit files at their discretion. In the near future, I'll also be implementing a way to notify via email when comments are posted (as well as a way to deactivate that feature, of course). Have fun! |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-04-02 03:25:36
I've implemented another feature for forum posts. If you see a forum thread that you'd like to keep track of, you can now subscribe to the thread. Just find a forum thread, click on it, and you should see a "Subscribe to thread" link at the top.
From that point forward, you'll receive email notification when replies are added to the thread. You can unsubscribe from the thread any time by going back to that same thread. You'll then see a "Unsubscribe from thread" link at the top of the page.
Enjoy! |

Well, most of the changes made in past few hours have been behind-the-scenes kind of stuff and I won't bore you all with the details. :)
There were a couple subtle changes made to the forums section and I plan to implement a couple more features to the section in the next day or so. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-03-31 12:52:42
We've gone ahead and added a "Top Forum Posts" list on the righthand side of the main page. In addition, we've begun working on the look and functionality of the forums section a little bit. We'll continue to look at this and see where improvements can be made. |

Posted by: mbolton 2006-03-30 19:10:39
We've just put in the feature that allows you to receive a notification (via the email that you signed up for MP with) when a person wants to add you to their friends list. The email will contain a link to follow to sign in so that you may approve or decline their request.
Also, if you do not wish to be notified of these friend requests, you can disable the notification in the Privacy Options (User Preferences -> Privacy Options). |

Please be aware that we will be implementing new themes today and tonight, so if you experience any errors in loading pages they will only be temporary and a reload should correct them. You'll be able to change themes in the "Preferences" link in your "edt profile" page. |
| |
Posted by: mbolton 2006-03-29 23:41:39

We will be implementing new themes which will be available site wide, not to mention that you can already change your profile page theme to suit your liking by using just about any mySpace theme editor available online. Some of you have already implemented your profile page themes, kudos! If you have troubles or questions, you can ask myself, mbolton or anyone who's already done it :o) |

People have been asking for it for quite a while and I finally implemented it. You can now edit the "top 8" friends that you have on your profile page. Just click the link at the bottom of the list of 8 friends and follow the directions on the proceeding page.
I literally implemented this about 5 minutes ago, so please let me know if you see any issues with it. Thanks! |

Well, this page, for one. :) I thought it would be nice to share all the new bells and whistles with everyone in one concise area. Since this is the first post on this subject, I'll provide a recent timeline:
3/29 - This section (what's new) and we added the ability to have new messages from MP users notify you via email. If you do not wish to be notified via email when you receive a new message, simply go to User Preferences -> Privacy Options and check the appropriate box to have your notification stopped.
3/28 - Added the ability to have a direct URL to your profile. For instance, going to multiplaya.com/mbolton would take you to my profile. Also added the ability for a person to "pimp" their profile page by using CSS style tags within the About Me section. Just go to View My Profile -> Edit My Profile and add the CSS tags right in the About Me section and you're good to go!
I'll be adding more information about new stuff as I think of it. :) |
